She paints womens sacred stories – minyma – which show the role of the woman as healer and provider within her Ngaanyatjarra society. Barbara Napangarti Reid’s work is characterised by the depiction of puli – rock formations, and tuli – sand hills, those features that are so much a part of the land form from which she comes.

In this visually powerful painting Barbara is depicting sacred stories (minyma) that revolve around the role of the women as healers and providers within her Ngaanyatjarra society – and the sites where the ceremonies are performed. Using a strong vibrant palette of burnt red ochre, black and white, Barbara has created a simply stunning piece of work.
