Gracie Pwerle Morton

Born: c.1956
Location: Utopia, Central Australia
Language: Alyawarre

Gracie began to paint on batik with the Utopia Women's Batik Group in the 1070's and her work was first featured in the Robert Holmes ΰ Court Collection. She has been painting on canvas since the late 1980's and her work has been well received in galleries throughout Australia and the world.
Gracie paints her father’s dreaming ‘The Bush Plum’, a traditional food for her people known to the Alyawarre as Arnwekety.
She uses distinctively minimalist fine dot-work using traditional colours to depict the land and growth of the Bush Plum. She also uses an aerial perspective to portray the seasonal changes of the Bush Plum. Gracie recently suffered from repetitive strain injury and her fine dot work ceased but she recovered and is again painting these fine works.

This beautiful painting is a fine example of the delicate dot work so sort after by people who collect Gracie's paintings. The colours used would be considered 'modern' and the striking balance of the work is captivating.
